Rotary Dictionary Project puts dictionaries in hands of third graders — Dickinson Schools news

For third graders, discovering a new word can open the door to a whole new world. That's the opportunity the Dickinson Rotary Club recently gave area third grade students by handing out dictionaries during its annual Dictionary Project. This year, 15 Rotarians visited more than 20 classrooms in all schools in Dickinson, South Heart and Belfield. In October, Rotarians went into third grade classrooms to present a short lesson on the use of dictionaries and to give each student their own dictionary, a generous gift from the Dickinson Rotary Club. Our Rotary Club is very focused on literacy in our communities, Rotarian Mary Massad said via press release. Our Dictionary Project for all third grade students is one of several initiatives to promote literacy in our students to the benefit of all. Massad assisted with organizing the project. The ongoing literacy project has been in existence the past 15 years or more, according to club literacy coordinator
